Paul Valthaty ton helps Punjab to win 6 wicket Victory over CSK

Kings X1 Punjab made a superb victory over Chennai Super Kings in the match played between CSK vs KXP yesterday at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, India on Wed April 13, 2011 for the IPL season IV.

The toss was won by KingsX1 Punjab who elected to field first. After getting the invitation for batting, the both openers Aniruda Srikkanth and Murali Vijay came on the crease. But their start was not good. CSK lost the wicket of the opener Anirudha on the very first ball of first over of the inning. He was done lbw by Praveen Kumar.

Not only this, the one down player Suresh Raina also went on the second ball of the inning. His ball was caught by Paul Valthaty (MOM) and the ball was done by Praveen Kumar. But with the help of half centuries by Murali Vijay who made 74 runs in 43 balls (with 6 fours and 4 sixes) and Subramaniam Badrinath who made 66 runs in 56 balls (with 8 fours), CSK was able to put a difficult target of 188 in front of Punjab team. The captain MS Dhoni also contributed 43 runs in just 20 balls with a strike rate of 215.

Kings 11 Punjab brilliantly started the innings and achieved this tough target in 19.1 overs. The openers Paul Valthaty and Adam Gilchrist gave solid start to the team. Gilli scored 19 runs in 15 balls with 2 fours. There was partnership of 61 runs between both the openers for 1st wicket.

However Paul Valthaty cricket was the turning point of the match. He was the super hero for Kings Punjab. He made a fire century to help Punjab to win by 6 wickets over Chennai. Also this was his first IPL century. He remained unbeaten on 120 and played just 63 balls. His inning include 19 fours and 2 huge sixes. He was awarded as ‘Man of the Match’ for this winning ton.
