Delhi Police attacked Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev followers yesterday night on 4 June 2011 at around 1:10 am in the mid-night.

Baba and his followers were sitting on Indefinite Hunger-Strike in the Ramlila Ground in New Delhi.

Baba has asked the government to pass an anti-corruption law and accept Jan Lokpal Bill.

Around 5,000 police officers did lathi-charge on the innocent followers of Baba Ramdev and forcibly removed him and all the followers from there.

Baba Ramdev Arrested

For security purposes, the police officers detained and arrested baba ramdev but then later released him.

The police attacked the supporters with their sticks. In turn, people threw stones. The police then took the help of tear-gases and became more violent.

Ramdev announced and asked his followers to be calm. He said that violence is not the solution of anything. So, people should react with silence.

He himself then went into the crowd so that he may not be taken away by the cops. His some of the main volunteers formed a human-circle around him to provide him security against the police so that they may not arrest him.

But the human-ring circle failed when mass number of policemen attacked the ring. The policemen arrested him and took him away with them.

Many civilians were injured and around 30 of them were immediately admitted to the nearby LNJP (Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital).

Men and Women, who were sleeping from many hours fled away in the different directions.

People were filled with full anger.

Some of them compared this protest with that done by Egyptians. Egypt also allowed people to protest for so long period but Indian government was not able to tolerate this protest even for 14 hours. It is to be noted here that the hunger-strike was broken just after 14 hours of its start.

GK Pillai, Home Secretary said that Baba will be taken safely to his ashram in Hardwar in Uttarakhand.

Government said that they gave permission to baba to organize a yoga camp with only 5,000 people. But the gathering was around 40,000 people. It was becoming difficult for the government to provide security to so much crowd and as a result, they had to take violent action. And also, the yoga camp turned into a Protest Camp, for which the permission was not given.

Kapil Sibal, Human Resource Development Minister criticized Baba to hold the protest, even when he did an agreement with the govt of not doing it.

Baba Ramdev Reaction on Police Attack to end Hunger Strike

On the other side, yoga-guru told that the govt has cheated them clearly. He had the pemission of what he and his supporters were doing.

This Ramleela Ground was booked a month before Yoga Guru for his Hunger Strike against Corruption and it was deteriorated just after 14 hours of its launch.

He said previously only some thousand Indian civilians came to support him and now after this reaction of Indian Congress, lakhs will come. He said that the common man is with him and his rules.

He said that he only wants corruption to end and the black money of corrupt politicians should be out-shined in front of everyone. He said that trillions of illegal black money is lying in Swiss Banks and that is and should be utilized for the welfare of common man of his country India.

Then why, the Congress govt officials don’t want that. What’s the harm in doing that?

On this action, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar condemned the Congress and said that it’s a direct attack on Indian democracy.

Some people said that it was the same incident as that happened in 1919 in Jalianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab. At that time, the Britishers attacked the innocent people and now the Congress has done the same.

The Police has imposed Section 144 on the Ramlila Ground. This section prohibits anyone to do a gathering of 5 or more people.
