Today on 30 April 2011, Saturday, Leader of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen group and Andhra Pradesh Legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi got injured in an open firing.
The incident took place in the morning around 11:30 am when MIM leader was visiting Chandrayangutta Assembly Constituency in Hyderabad’s old city. He had a meeting in Barkas neighborhood. He came out from the meeting and was getting into his car, when suddenly 4 or 5 persons came and attacked Akbaruddin with open sharp knives. When he tried to escape and started driving, those persons started firing.
His party’s colleague and Legislator Balala rushed to save him but they were also hit by the attackers.

To save Balala, his security guards opened firing in return and were able to injure the 3 attackers. One of them died and other 2 are in hospital now.
Akbaruddin Owaisi was immediately taken to Owaisi Hospital in Santosh Nagar. As per A.R. Anuradha, Police Additional Inspector General, Owaisi is out from the danger now and his condition is better than before.
MIM activists are in very much anger over the whole incident. Some sources said that their leader is being attacked by Mohammed Pehlwan. Pehlwan owns a land, which MIM Leader handed to the government authorities to build houses for the poor population.
Hundreds of MIM supporters along with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy rushed to the hospital to see if Andhra Pradesh Legislator is safe.
Hyderabad is in a tense atmosphere now and especially, the Muslim People want to take revenge. The local police sent the additional forces including RAF (Rapid Action Force) to prevent any sort of violence in the city. The police personnel spread in the whole area soon and more staff was employed in the highly sensitive areas.
The shopkeepers closed their shops. Even the busy markets of Hyderabad like the areas surrounded Charminar and Mecca Masjid were closed.
Akbaruddin is the younger brother of MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, who is the Lok Sabha member of Hyderabad. The party has 7 legislators out of 294 member house. The 39-years old Akbaruddin has played a major role in strengthening the party in the last 12 years.
